I found the "draw straw" repair. Here is a link to the repair if anyone would need it. Vulcan Draw Straw Installation I also need to replace the steel lines in the frame rail to and from the engine. Mysterync your correct, its not a fuel pump just a pick up and float. I'm too use to working on the gas powered cars

What kind of shape is the rubber portion of the fuel lines in? it sounds like you may have an air leak somewhere.
Edit - the fuel heater is also known for leaking air, not hard or too expensive to replace, but you can also remove it and see if the miss goes away, the engine will run fine without it. if the problem is solved, get a new one and re-install.
