1. Dave Goerend or
2. DTT

But everyone has their preference. Though I doubt anyone will argue with me that Dave is one of the best. And he won't try to talk you into something you don't need.

Also, if the trans really has 400k on it, I would say do the internals anyways. Get a good HD rebuild kit. Or stock kit if you aren't going for a lot of power.

Have you considered doing a 5 speed swap? I love my manuals but I bought an auto because of the cheap price. I have thrown around ideas and prices of whether or not to build the auto or swap it and after doin some pricing I decided to do the swap. 3k for everything I need to do it, plus it comes with the bigger input shaft and a haisly street DD with 75% life left.

IMO, a swap isn't worth it at all. You can build an auto for way cheaper than doing a swap. And at the end of the day, the auto will hold more power than a built stick anyways. And if you like that manual feel, you can get a manual valvebody.

I like the control of a manual. I can precisely manuver my truck that way. I'd like to swap my 4 speed for a 5 speed manual. Tell me more about the manual valve body. And when you talk about single plate you are referring to the tc right?

Yeah, a single disc TC.

A manual valvebody allows you to shift between gears like a manual tranny, but its faster than an actual manual tranny. A lot of pullers use them with speed shifters (not sure of actual name) so they can shift fast. If you don't get a different shifter, you can still use the column shifter, but the gear labels will be backwards. D-2-1 should be 1-2-D

I agree with the performance aspect....a good built auto is certainly gonna run an tow circles around a manual. But depending on how good of a deal you can find, im thinking a fully build auto is around 6 or 7k?

it depenes on if you are the only one to drive your truck or if have other people drive it i would stay away from the manual vavle bodys not everyone is smart enof to work them and then your truck gets srewed up but if you are the only one to drive it then they are fun to drive had one in an old chevy of mine it was just like a stick with out the clutch
