1997 CTD Problem
well i havea friend that has been having all sorts of problems with his truck. he has just changed the vp44 the lift pump and the injectors. but now he has amiss at idle and it is hard to start (you have to give it gas to start) now he did put bigger injectors into it so could he be needing more gas?? if so is there a way to turn up the fuel pump?? Or could it be something else?? ohh yah he had a shop do the pump and they say it is timed correct.

only way to get more fueling is through electronics IF it is a 24 valve.......but IF its a 97, its a 12 valve IF the engine is factory.......could be air or the pump on its way out again, check all the fittings on the fuel system to make sure they are tight.....also scan the truck for any codes it might have.....OH and i wouldnt give it any gas maybe diesel though......

Depends on what type of truck. Is it a 97 12V or a later year 24V? I would check all the fuel connections for the injectors and make sure they are tight, you might have air in them as well. If they are all tight, then you can try bleeding the fuel injection system. Does it smooth out when the motor warms up? Does it do it if he plugs it in?

it's a P7100 (the GOD of all pumps) more than likely there is a leak in the fuel return line that is allowing air to get into the system when shutdown. you can either replace all the old crusty 10 year old rubber line or you can replace it section by section until the problem is gone. i'd go ahead and install a volcan big line kit if i was having to do it.....
