Or at least a description of what wire does what. I replaced my headlight switch and just like my old one, my parking & gauge lights only work when you pull it out one click and go halfway between one and 2. Then when you pull it all the way out the headlights work but nothing else. Anyway, I'm just going to have a toggle for parking & dash lights, a toggle for low beams, and a toggle for hi beams. If I can figure out what goes to what. Any help is appreciated.

 

Mine did this when I blew the fuse for the parking lights. It's a different fuse than the headlights. The closest I could come to an explanation was power feeding back through the trailer wiring circuit.

 

Checked my fuse, its still good..

 

I'll try to scan the wiring diagram out of the FSM and post it up for you.

 

i had the same problem. i cut the wires from the swith and ran new wires to the parking lights and headlights and put 2 toggle switches in. brights still work off the turnsiglal lever. found out it was a factory recall in the light switch after i did it! i wouldnt go that way if u dont have to

 

Did you disconnect the power when you cut your wires? Obviously something blew, but what?Same thing happened on my 96 1500, I was lazy and didn't want to go out in the rain to disconnect the battery. Turned the wiring harness inside out and came up blank, tried different switches, nothing worked. Wound up using a toggle to turn on the park lights, everything else works fine. You can bet I disconnected the battery when I did the switch on my 97 2500. I'll be interested to see what you find. Good luck.

 

I've wired in my head lighs and parking lights using a toggle switch and spade connectors to the factory wiring harness that plugs into the switch, but now, when I push the break pedal the third break light comes on, but the back two don't light up brighter and my blinkers don't work. Evenm the dash light indicators don't come on when I try to use the blinker.
