i took my truck from wytheville va to mt airy NC, it takes about an hour and a half to get there, and it wasnt as bad as i figured it would be, but i was running about 75 there and back.

but i think any longer then that it will be too annoying to keep.

i know that on my old 86 6.9 idi diesel i had a 6 inch mitre cut on it and i mean the thing was loud!!! but my buddy had the same thing on his power stroke and it seems to be that the turbo actually quiets it down more i have friends with them as long as you have a turbo diesel and not a idi you should be good

And if your driving over 200+ miles, i wouldnt put a stack on it. You may love it now but down the road, it gets kinda annoying.
If I was doing long range driving all the time, I wouldn't even consider it. But I have two vehicles up here at college, my truck, which I primarily use running around town, back and forth to class, etc., and then my car (bout 35-37mpg) that I usually jump in before I head back home, so its a rare circumstance that my truck makes the trip back home.

But I just don't want to put in the stack, not like it, then have a hole in my bed

Theres a couple of guys here in town with stacks, I need to holler at one or two of them and go for a ride.....

Thanks for all the help guys

Yup!! best thing to do. I suggest riding in any 12vavle because 12valves are louder then anything else. (my opinion)

^^ i second that. and for the hole in the bed, a steel plate and nice weld will do the trick

I have a full 4" straight exhaust to dual 4" turnout stacks on my 12valve Fummins, extended cab truck, and I drove 8 hours, windows down, at 75 mph average and the turbo whistle was actually louder than the exhaust drone....it was very tolerable. I second the comment on depending on size of stack and exhaust. The bigger the transition, the more the drone, i.e: 4" exhaust to 7" stack equals more drone than 4" exhaust to 5" stack...or so it seems anyway. Just my two cents...

hmmm seems like a lot of you guys have regular cabs, while mine is an extended cab. might make it a little more bearable

and I have a pretty loud radio so I think I could probably drown it out if I wanted too

but I still have a couple hundred dollars to think about it
