The AFC adjusts how much boost affects the amount of pedal input to fueling vs boost. It will hurt mileage if you push the pedal down to make smoke with no boost. Some people gut the AFC and make it just pedal input, some people fine tune it and make it work how its supposed to but with performance in mind.
That being said, no plate and star wheel cranked has made smoke hard to control when you have to roll off a red light with a cop watching you.

The star wheel adjusts preload on a spring that holds tension on a diaphram that has boost pushing on it. So the more you load the spring with the wheel, the less the fueling depends on boost.
well right now i have no problems with pedal feel, and it doesnt smoke much at all... however, i plan on turning up the star wheel tomorrow, once the star wheel is turned up is this when im going to start to notice a lack of control over wasted fuel? what i mean by that is am i going to be able to make a normal acceleration without smoking or is it going to be the same deal just with more smoke when i really lay into it? does a 0 fuel plate make as much power as no fuel plate in a more controlled manner or is there simply no more power then running no plate? basically should i order the 0 fuel plate or not!? tough choice...

turns out the star wheel was pretty much maxed out, i got a few more turns on it and slid the housing all the way forward(it pretty much already was) and called it good. i dont have any problems with the way it runs and im getting 14.5mpg around town on 35" tires.
