Default Tranny? Or gears? Or what?

I'm not really sure what it is or how to ask but I have an auto tranny and it shifts fine until after third gear it takes forever to get out of 4th 3rd will go to about 30mph then shift then 4th will go all the way to about 1900 hundred rpm then shift around 40 then it shifts into 5th at 45 and the rpms drop to about 1200 and when I'm pulling something it's hard as he'll to accelerate. Is this how it's supposed to be??? Or is it the type of tranny I have? Or my gears?? No idea!! Definately annoying!

There ain't no 5th gear on that truck. It's probably the torque converter locking you're thinking feels like 5th.

1 2 and 3 gears are controlled hydraulically and 4th and tc lock are controlled electronically ....there are ways to adjust the shifting through TPS and tv cable adjustments (correct me if im wrong someone). some people put toggle switches or controllers in so that they can control 4th and tc lock manually. here some reading on that http://www.tstproducts.com/Torque%20...p%20Switch.pdf

just taking the power you already have and putting yourself in control of when to apply it, better mileage? it all depends on how you used it and how you drive. faster acceleration? yes, it would allow you to lock up the tc faster

the switches arent hard to wire up yourself, i have mine with the od on the floor on a high beam type switch and lock up is on a momentary switch that is hooked to a relay which takes it out of lock up (this is so you cant stop the truck with it in lock up still) with the switches you can really keep it in the gear you want or make it shift when you want

your tps sensor may be getting bad and that is y your tranny is hunting for the gears
