I recently purchased a 1997 dodge 2500 with an automatic trans and I'm not sure if it is the norm for these trucks but shifting from first to second the truck will reach about 3000 RPM before it shifts hard into second. All the other gears changes are fine and shift down ok. I've done some research and think it might be a band adjustment as the previous owner didn't adjust or didnt change fluid? I feel comfortable doing the procedure but in order to adjust one of the bands you have to remove the valve body pan and have heard that draining the tranny fluid and replacing it will cause problems if it has never done before. Any ideas or experience with this issue?

mine was doing that bout 6 months ago, now it does it in every gear

 

I'm buying the truck from my dad who is the second owner and it has done that ever since he owned it that i can remember and its been probably around 8 years.

 

well just remember too, its a 3/4 ton pickup. not a race car so the tranny isnt made to shift super quick, and 47re's are crappy anyways. im allowed to say that cause i have one haha

 

sounds like the tv cable nees to adjusted that controls shift on that year 47re .
