I use a 1/2 inch metal rod between the seat and throttle. Its a multi-use unit, I also use it to beat on the starter and as a general beating tool. I idle up to around 1100 in winter.

I took a quick peek at my service manual. The cruise control servo has 4 wires:ground, brake switch, vacuum port, and vent port. I didn't dig far, but I imagine it's a 5v system. I'm going to see if I can find a two way potentiometer with a center off posistion and make it work. I'm thinking I should add one way diodes to the vac/vent port wires so it doesn't back feed the PCM.

Are there any electrical gurus that thinks this is plausible?

This sounds interesting, has anyone figured out this modified cruise control?

You can find short stroke solenoids on summit, they're used for the old carbureted engines that have AC, put power to the compressor clutch and the little solenoid would push the throttle open a hair to compensate for the added load. They're fully adjustable from what I can tell. You can move the position of the solenoid in the bracket, and then the anvil appears to be adjustable too. Just wire it up to a toggle, flip the switch and let it hold the throttle in position for you if I remember correctly, older corvettes had something similar except I believe it was a variable position deal, may have been a stepper motor. Just remember having one come thru my auto shop in high school with a screwed up idle.

I like the stick method it's free simple and works great

I'd say between 1000-1200 idle to warm up if it's an auto put it in neutral to help
Warm up trans

Smile Cheap, Simple High idle Switch for 12 Valve Cummins

Hey guys, I have made a video about this on my 96 12 valve. I did a ton of research before hand. The only way to install high idle on a mechanic fuel system, is to have something that drives the throttle. Ive seen guys use regular throttle cables, and ive seen them use the cruise control motor. These are both totally usable options, but I found the manual cable option to be a bit finicky and the cruise control wiring to be a bit complex for most folks who dont have a ton of wiring experience. I made this up in about an hour. Its super simple, its fully adjustable, and only costed about 100 dollars CAD. If you guys want a more in depth install video, I can provide one at your request.
