thanks ***. I'm not good with tools and with making things (except messes). So in this case I'd rather not mess it up and just buy one

I believe Cummins actually sells the tab...

Youll look good fixing your KDP in a pink bathrobe...

Thanks for the help.Watching you-tube repair showed me the push rod acess holes by wiper linkage.Spent the Easter weekend changing gear housing.Wow.It was intense.I left my condensor connected and it made it a little more difficult, but worked around it.I even adjusted my fuel plate all the way forward.Any idea as to the HP increase with the stock fuel plate?1995 Dodge rated at 175HP.I have noticed an increase in the boost pressure.

Hey Chucks, How much Oil were you leaking with the cracked gear housing?
Also I found some cheap plates on ebay I think there were #5 and # 100 plates for around $30. Replace the stock air box with a big air filter, you can buy a kit or just buy a big round filter and pull the stock air box out. that will definitely help with the HP.

On that statement alone you should let a professional do this one... If you can't make a tab with a drill bit and alil bit of grinding, sucks to be you...

My oil leak was not severe. What tweeked me that something was wrong was the fact that there was an oil stain on my garage floor at a location that was oil free before.I then phoned a Cummins advisor which I have dealt with before and explained what my symptoms were.He explained the KDP to me and later in the week I pulled my fan mounting hub off and found the exterior crack. For the time being I cleaned the location and put silicone over the crack. It stopped the leak, but I felt that it should get repaired properly and locate the dowel.I did find evidence of the direction that the dowel travelled and it appears that it is my oil pan.

Drive the pin into the bore then hit the edges of the bore with a punch or chisel. That is called "staking" and it will insure that the pin can no longer back out of the hole. Cheapest, easiest way and no engineering needed.

Oh, and if you can pull the entire front cover off of a Cummins to do the job, surely making a simple washer tab cannot be beyond your ability... Just sayin'
