Default Looking for some Transmission expert advice..

I have a 98 12v quad cab long bed 4x4. I currently have a 47re with Goerends tripple disc converter, valve body, and billet flex plate. I want to swap to a MANUAL transmission. I tow a trailer occasionally, 15,000lbs +. I want to be able to hook to the sled without fear of breaking my tranny. And I want to be able to drive it on the street although its not my every day driver. But i want it to be streetable. Which transmission do you recomend I go with? Ive herd nv4500, nv5600, Eaton/Fuller. Not really sure which one is the best. i would like to stay around $4000 or less completed. Also which tranny has the most available aftermarket parts? Such as billet shafts etc.. Any advice?

i picked the nv4500 for the swap, one of the stoutest tranys in my eyes and realativly simple in construction, aftermarket parts ehhh not so much, hard to find but they are out there. I put the conversion kit together for 2120.00 and a brand new valair for 508.00 only thing i have left to get is a built rear drive shaft. In the end i should make it out at just under 3000.00 for the conversion from my old built 47re.

Wow really? Kinda thought it was going to be a bit more than that. Where did u pick up the 4500 at? Was it used or a rebuilt one or new one? Was the valair a DD? And how do u like the valair?

got all the conversion parts from jim at basleys auto in normalville PA the nv4500 had roughly 20k on it and was tore apart and inspected with all new seals and gaskets, my truck is a street truck so i oped to go with the ceramic/ceramic valair single with hd spring hub good for 550hp and 1000ftlbs, def not a clutch to tow with it grabs way to hard. i ordered the clutch on mon so i dont have it yet but have installed and driven the exact same clutch in my friends cummins. for the money spent on it, its held up just fine, plus you dont wear your left leg numb drivin it in traffic like with a double or tripple. oh and if your lookin at gettin a hd spring hub ur flywheel bore has to be bigger the 7 in in diameter.

What does that Hd spring hub do? And if you have a stock flywheel can you bore it out yourself? OR is that something I should buy. Does Baisleys sell new conversion kits without the tranny? Were they new parts or old?

The HD hub is much stronger than the OEM design. The center bore on the flywheel must be 7 inches for clearence issues, The 12V came with a 6 7/8 inch bore.

the hd hub allows you to have the the same benifits or better than converting to a 13" clutch and min clutch chatter in netrual. as for new parts i dont believe so its a cummins grave yard/ cummins truck sales so most parts are takin out of trucks but the conversion parts come with everything to make ur truck look like it came stock with a manual.
