nv4500 swap?
#21
Great Deal???????.....WTF?????...
Ok,now since no one else will ask this I will for you all as it needs to be looked at when you consider this swap......
How do you feel this is a great deal for the swap?.....
Here is the way I see it for you number crunchers with cost......
-$2500 for a USED NV4500 and the parts to do the swap.
-$1800 for a good double disc clutch of your choice.
-$ 500 for a good 1 3/8" input shaft(about double if you find a billet version)
-$ 250 for the upograded hydraulics to handle the double disc.
-----------------------------------------------------------
-$5050 for just the parts to do the swap with zero labor cost and no incedentials.
For those who can not do the swap at home this would be a very costly expense IMO.I am not trying to tell anyone NOT to do it but am trying to show that going this route and ending up with a used transmission to me is not a good deal at all.To me for the cost your laying out to do this I would rather drop it all into a full tilt billet automatic and save all the extra hassles of the swap.IF you were to use a rebuilt NV4500 in the deal the cost you initially would lay out for parts would go up about another $1500 as the rebuilt NV4500/5600's are bringing around $2800-3500 depending where you buy them.
I will say this...
For the cost of what I have said above and have a rebuilt stick instead(total close to 7g's) you could have one stout billet automatic and a sweet daily driver to pound the ground with and only have to stomp and steer.IMO,You guys are nuts,if you would drive a stick with a double everyday and you'll understand my logic.Good Luck with your swaps.......Andy

I just did this swap. its not that bad. i did it with a motorcycle jack, and a few blocks of wood. i got the trans, transfer case, pedal assem., shifters, hydros, and drive shafts for $2100, paid $1800 for dd clutch AND new input shaft. then had trans gone through, ($450)new syncros, bearings, input shaft, etc. hardest part was getting the trans to slide into the clutch pack. love it so far! on a 12v, you do not need a new hydro assem. unless the one you get is bad!

i debated for 3 months on whether to do this swap or get a full billet auto. lets just figure i saved approx. $3000 according to the prices i got from dtt and suncoast. with that i can get a turbo, head worked and other mods...... to me it was a better value for the money.
just my $.02
