Has anyone had problems with their steering box leaking? It seems to have come and gone but now it's dripping pretty good. Is there a seal inside that can be changed? The steering seems fine but the red oil makes a mess in the driveway! Do I need to replace the whole assembly or just a seal? How hard is it to do?

 

You can replace the seal on the sector shaft but it won't last to long. The shaft is worn and that cause the seal to leak. You can replace the box and then put a DSS on and not have it happen again or maybe replace the seal and add a DSS and it might hold up for a while.

 

Without sounding too dumb, may I ask what a DSS is?

The DSS brace is one of the best mods for a 2nd Gen truck an owner can do.I did mine way back when they first came out with these braces and now have 220k on the original steering box and I relate its longevity to the brace.........Andy
