Default Need a Clutch

Ok guys ive been looking at clutches theirs so many differnt manufactures its overwhelming.
I guess to start with trucks a 98 12 valve with an NV4500 i havent got any idea what im putting out for horsepower mods are afc and torque plate full forward torque plates a number 10, running a BHAF with heat shield, stock injectors, timings been bumped alittle bit. its my daily driver i pull are 24 foot haulmark race car trailer about 6 times a year and im getting into sled pulling at a local level nothing to crazy just shutting up a few punks in my town. Im currently needing a clutch the truck slips bad i have to drive it like an old man and its slowly getting worse. its the orignal clutch as far as i know so its got about 221,000 miles on it.
so whats the best bang for the money seeing how i dont have much money this was unexpected. thanks for the info.

I have been curious about the zoom clutch.. don't see too many people running them.

I will be needing a clutch soon, and on a budget I think I will go with a LUK or Valair I have heard good things about LUK in slightly modded trucks and mixed over Valair.

well boys ill tell you this now if you want to hook to a sled you NEED a dd clutch with either big ceramic pucks or an iron clutch with big pucks and levers and an 1 3/8ths input shaft. single disk clutches are not designed for the abuse that a sled puts on your drivetrain. with that out of the way for a slightly modded truck that pulls trailers and is an everyday driver an organic feramic clutch is good if you have the money go with a kevlar ceramic these clutches have the slip designed into them to get a heavy trailer rolling with out breaking your truck. youll want a clutch rated for about 350-400 horse by the sounds of it but remeber its not the horsepower that burns out our clutches its the torque

I Just got off the phone with a local shop, Fort Wayne Clutch in Fort Wayne Indiana its about 30 minutes from me they deal in south bend clutches for are big diesels trucks and Carry recommended for my truck and driving style to go with the south bend double disc because i am slowly getting into sled pulling and tugga truck events. the clutch they recommended for me is part number SDD 3250-5 its rated for 550 hp and 1200 torque im looking at $1200.00 for the clutch kit. Also highly recommended south bend hydraulic assembly another $ 325.00 so i gotta work work and work some more to get my truck back in action again. Oh If anyones local to me and wants to talk to the guys at fort wayne clutch give them a shout

They also told me that the zoom clutch isn't recommended for are trucks they increasce the clamp load as the rpms go up but once you have a good load on the truck start to lug it alittle the clamp force backs off because the rpms go down.

I won't say anything bad about brands I've never used but I will say some good about the SB I've had in this truck for almost 200,000 miles now. This is a farm truck that is used to pull trailers to heavy for our trucks through muddy fields and backin up in and around barn lots, not to mention the fact that I'm slightly over rated on HP for the clutch. I've rode this clutch hard enough to watch it smoke on many occasions and yet to this day I have only gotten it to slip one time when the Comp was all the way up and I tried launching in 3rd gear, that slipped it.

Personally I can't say enough good about this clutch.
