I just bought the $30 ebay #0 plate. mine took a little grinding to clear the AFC housing in full forward position but it's pretty simple.
$30 for a 0 plate on Ebay.....
Man,to think about what I am missing here...I was giving them away while I had all those extra stock plates around,sheesh.

so whats a safe plate to move to from stock..............im looking for more power obviously, but im not a puller, imnot gonna race any tuners.........she's just a redneck hauler - i pull a skid steer, and i plow snow and i want her to be as bad assed as poss, without detonateing things

Best bet is a 100 and tune the AFC....

Not if you tune the AFC and you can pull the plate back some. The AFC controls the pre-boost fueling. There is a foot that slides on a rod with a spring and diaphragm on it. Boost pressure pushes the foot forward allowing the rack to ride on the fuel plate. How fast the fot moves out of the way depends on the spring tension based on how much boost is applied to the diaphragm.....do a search on here and I am sure lots will pop up about free mods to the AFC.
