Default cam gear and power steering pump gear

well I finally got to tear into my motor yesterday got the front end torn down and was getting ready to put on the new pump and kill my kdp and well it got me before I could get it. turns out my pump didn't go out on me. the kdp took out my cam gear and power steering pump gear but thats it case and cover are still good. so I guess its time for a cam now too hahaha.

Some people have claimed to able to change the cam gear without pulling the cam. There was a article on one of the forums I just cant remember which one?

So it looks like the kdp wasn't the problem it turns out that the retainer for the cam broke and the cam walked out and bent the push rods so it looks like accidental hot rod might be getting more than I thought

Sounds like some bad carnage. I recently fixed where my KDP got me, Pulling the cam is a "fun" job to put it lightly. My advice is to not pull the cam until you are absolutely ready to re-install it, or another, one in the same day. You wouldnt wont to drop a lifter, this could be even more work.

Oh and NEVER, take the pump gear off of the cam and re-install a new one(with the cam in the truck). The heat generated can make you have all kinds of trouble later, we have a truck in my firends shop that the stealership "fixed" a KDP breakage, and heated the gear to get it off. Well-long stroy short the new gear didnt like the situation and wiped out the cam as well as lots of other moving parts in there on it's way out.

I agree with the above statement. The cam gear "can" be changed in the truck, but it's a horrible idea. It takes a couple hours in an oven to get a gear hot enough to put on a cam. I wouldn't want to subject the entire cam nor the motor to intense heat for that long of a period.

Pushrods have to come out for a cam swap anyway, so hopefully they didn't damage the block or head while being bent.

I'd go ahead and put in stronger valve springs since you have to takem them off anyway... MAYBE even titanium seats and keepers!!! oooooooohhh!!!

Okay... I'm done spending your money. I get a little carried away.

Good luck with your install. It's not that hard, it just takes a while. Go slow.
