Default rpm sensor problems

when i pulled my head i didn't see i had the sensor attached and it ripped the wires out of the plug. im now trying to just use butt connectors to reattach it but i cant get it figured out. i got the center wire hooked up but the two outside wires on the sensor side are the same color but either way i hook them up my tach doesn't work. my speedo a couple times was hovering which is kinda weird so what im wondering is how come my speedo is acting like my tach? before, my tach would freak out every once in a while by shooting up to redline or something when im just crusing at like 2k rpm so maybe it is adjusted wrong or maybe its just toast?

My guess is that the butt connectors are changing the resistance too much and that is causing the signal to get messed up.... if you think have the wires figured out, I would solder them together and see if that fixs the problem... Crank position sensors can be very finicky...
