Its called a good topside creeper and paientence.....

OR...

You could do your best imitation of Gumby and twist yourself like a contortionist to get them adjusted...LOL

I prefer the topside creeper and taking my time as my old worn out body doesn't twist like that anymore........Andy

Default Valve Lash

The FSM for my 1999 calls for a valve lash check at 150,000 miles. I bought the truck used, so I don't know if it had been done before, but I checked it right at 150,000 miles. I had ONE valve that was .002 out of tolerance. The tolerances for valve lash are HUGE, and all but that one (#2 intake valve) were well within spec. I think the most difficult parts of the job are: 1) getting the rocker cover off, since the back of it is so close to the overhanging 'roof' of the engine compartment, and: 2) Just physically REACHING the rear-most valves.
BTW, I bought a new rocker cover gasket, and installed it, but only because I had already bought it. The original was still fine.
My 1999 is BONE stock. Perhaps a truck with performance mods would require more frequent checking.

Sorry,
I'm brain dead today. Disregard. I didn't take into account I'm in the 12Valve section. D'oh!
