thanks guys but i'll take my chances!
If thats the case, just straightpipe it. I would not mess around with trying to gut the muffler.

You will need some 3" exhaust pipe and some clamps. You may also want to get the muffler place to flare each end some to make install easier or just weld it on.

Cant remember how much pipe was needed when I did mine. If you go this route - its going to get LOUD.

Hood stack. That will give him something to gripe about.

I had the exact same issue with my 1996 but my dad really didnt care because we were going to start building it a month later. But what I did before I got real exhaust was just take a small grinder and cut a square hole in the bottom of the cat like a flap bent it down and knocked out everything bent the flap back a welded it shut worked perfetly and didnt effect anything other then makeing the truck run better, did the trick even after i started makeing more power but had to change it

All you have to do is get in it as close to the down wind side and use a stick or small metal bar. Poke it around till stuff is loose then start it, and repeat until its empty. I think. Probably gonna make a mess though.
