Need ADVICE on transmission .
I have a 97 dually 12 V that I bought about 4 months ago from an old man , it had 183 k miles on it when I bought it . The truck was well taken care of and I bought the truck for 8k and since have dropped another 7k in mods ( mostly cosmetic , lift , tires , stereo , trim , ranch hands etc .) I stumbled across this site yesterday and in just 24 hours have learned quite a bit about fuel plate mods and trans info ) YOU GUYS ROCK BY THE WAY !!! My question is this : I wasnt to impressed with this auto trans , but I want to grind the fuel plate for a little more jump on initial take off . I dont haul anything but I eventually will . I found a replacement trans from BD Diesel Performance . It seems to be very well built . Have you guys heard any pros or cons about these ? And Also is it ok to do a fuel plate mod before the trans swap ?

What do the suncoast trans cost ? The BD Diesel trans was 4200.00 for an auto 4WD and Diesel performance Mag said they were good for around 600 HP . What are the suncoast good for ? ( Horsepower / tourque ) ? I also know that I have a P-7100 . Thats a 215 isnt it ? And can I just slide the fuel plate forward and the AFC housing without grinding the plate to a 100 ? Will that give me a little more juice on take off ?

the autos had a 180 pump. Sliding the plate will give you more power but a stocker at full forward is about as far as a stock Torque Converter is going to take you.
Find out what BD puts into the trans. Billet shafts? For that price and 600hp Im betting its only the input if that. What are your hp goals? Figure that up and add 200hp then start looking for a trans. I love my goerend and customer service form Dave is great. As far as hp any trans can be built to hold more hp. My trans should be good to 850ish. And theres more than a few trucks out there over 1000hp with a Suncoast trans.

Do I really need to do a complete trans swap or just the tourque converter ? How far will that take me as far as mods and horsepower go ? Also , I already have the truck lifted 5" with 35" muds , should I leave the fuel plate alone till I modify the trans or is it safe to move the stocker forward ? I dont do any mudding , just driving on highway mostly . It is a dually though and I know thats alot of meat to turn .
