I'm no expert, but if it were mine, I would first check to be sure the fuel shutoff solenoid is coming all the way up, change the fuel filter, run some power service through. You could have a bad fuel pump and it's bleeding off when it sits, then the P7100 is sucking in enough to run right once it runs for a bit. If none of that helps, you might have slipped the timing or have some injectors going bad. this is why I keep my 12v, it's simple, if its getting fuel properly, it'll run. Nothing else is in control between the tank and the motor

Sounds like a classic case of air finding its way into the fuel system somewhere the hard starting, slow idle and white smoke shows you that. Now what the main cause could be any number of items if you have done no other work on the factory fuel system.I have seen the return line off the P-Pump cause this(usually it will drip fuel down under the truck around the starter area),factory fuel lines corroded, connections at the tank module bad(hose rotted at sump or line connections) lift pump bad(it will usually show by looking under the primer pump button it will be wet with fuel) and/or a leaking fuel heater assembly(they will leak at the plug and have been known to short out because of it).I have also seen one P-Pump which did this due to a bad overflow valve(never kept the proper pressure in the pump to allow the truck to run correctly).

Also as said above, timing slippage, dirty fuel filter or shutoff solenoid will cause it.Hope this helps some.....Andy

mine did this and it was the little bent hose going from the tank to the pump it had rubbed a hole on the frame, try pressuring up the tank and look for leaks, and make shure diesel is not getting into your engine oil
