From what I've heard the major problems aren't guaranteed.
My buddy has been running with out a plate for 3 years with no problems.
I'm running with a gutted afc.
Some trucks run better with out a plate and some don't. It's just a "do I wanna take the chance", I guess.
With the gutted afc it is hard"er" to control the smoke. It can be controlled tho.
Hope that helps some.

well i talk to the guy who turned my pump up and he said he put a #0 in it and ground the afc arm and the guy who had the truck before me said he thinks it was later gutted but cant remember. and i have not had a chance to look and see. i got a stock plate and arm and was going to mod them and see if it mad a noticeable difference. if mine has been gutted. but i have to get a good dual disc before i can tell any difference.

i was pushing 425 to the wheels before injectors and timing and my clutch would slip a little and now it will not hold, so i have been babying it till i have the money for a SBC dual disc.
