Default Tranny Problems Maybe ???

sometimes the tranny dont shift like it should especially when climbing hills or trying to pass someone, i punch the the throttle it will take off for a few seconds then its like the overdrive kicks in and thats it, i cant go no faster, and even from a dead stop its sluggish then other days it takes off like rocket,i dont have a clue what it could be, any input would be nice thanks,

If it's sluggish some days and good others, sounds almost like a fueling problem.

i used to get it where i worked which was a exxon, but we got rid of fuel all together, now i get it at place close to where i live, but a lot of truckers stop there and i dont ever hear of any problems with the diesel there. no matter if i fill up or had some for days its all the same still does whats its doing.and just about a few hours ago i went to leave got up the road about mile hit 40 mph and the truck started shaking like a roller coaster ride .
