Default weird

I have a 97 cummins. I will turn the key and get the wait to start light wait for it to go off and, turn the key and it will hit or miss start or just keep turning over. Could the be a grid problem or a bad starter. PS what is the voltage on youse guys truck before turning the key? thanks in advance.

How cold is it down there?

I agree with Whit sounds to me like a fuel issue is your shut off solenoid pulling up completely?

Or possibly idle too low. Ram Diesel Problems
If you push the throttle a little, and it fires right up, adjust the idle.

funny you mention that... If i press the throttle in just enough it will fire better. it is about 45 degrees here give or take 10 degrees. I have noticed that the amps are pulled down during the Wait to start sequence. Onece it starts it idles low and comes up.

Mine does the same thing, just not as bad... I think the injectors are leaking, of course 300K miles will do that. Mine fires every time, just takes a minute or two... If it gets really bad I'll have the injectors pop tested to see how they are running.

in the cold i would adjust the idle to 700-800 rpm in drive with the a/c on. that should be your problem.
