Can flatten the cam and it could break if you let it just machine its way through ... I'm sure you wil see .. use a rag on the end of a flat tip screw driver ZIP TIE IT ON !!!! dont chance it ..
then roll the engine over and in spect as bets as you can looking for knicks and chunks ... small scratches will be ok .. long as there not to agressive ..
Cam's r fairly hard to gouge but .. anything can happen .. Keep us posted

I'd be a little surprised if the cam is gouged, but it certainly isn't unheard of. Personally, I'd drain the oil and unbolt the pan and try to fish it out from there. No, you can't remove the pan without jacking the engine, but you can make it more accessible than through the LP hole. I wouldn't jack the engine for this.

Well the truck is alive! Pulled the drain plug and fished it out in about 10 mins with magnet. Filled it wil oil put the new pump on with the old rod pumped it up and runs fine.. now question.. i did have a very small knick about the size of a pencil tip.. it is on the back side of the lobe so i took emory cloth and sanded dow. Little burr.. will this be ok?

Ok good.. if i do notice anything going wrong ill jus rip it off block it off and put an electric lift pump on.. alot cheaper than replacing cam .. but yea drained oil and tapped on pan with rubber mallet to hear where it was and fished it right out with flexible magnet
