Default possible lift pump problem?

Ok, so my truck takes forever to start, the other day i can to a stop at a red light and after sitting for a few seconds the truck died, and it always takes a few seconds and a few pumps of the gas pedal to get it started again. Could this be the stock lift pump on the driver side of the block? And if so what would be the best brand to buy?

I would check out the over flow valve first. That's a symptom of that going. But don't get the over priced stock one. Get a Tork tek adjustable one. Very good price and cannot fail like the stock bosch one. If you plan to upgrade your lift pump to an air dog or fass it would be the time to do it now and get one of the non adjustable ofv from Tork tek.

yeah sounds like low fuel pressure .. If its sop low its dying adjust your idle in gear to 850 .. see what that does .. never lower than 800 in gear ..

There is a way to test it I'm sure but honestly I'd just bite the bullet and dish out the 50 bucks for an adjustable one. I repeat not the stock Bosch one. The aftermarket one is a better quality, not possible to fail and cheaper. And like i said before if you plan to put an air dog or fass lift pump in do it now and get the non adjustable ofv from the same company from Tork tek, they have nice write ups on their site to help direct you in the right direction to which you will need for your application and future power plans. Messing with the stock and or original one is a waste of time. You won't be saving any time or money trying to test and fix your original. When they go they go, their are fixes and mods you can do to the stock one to make it work longer or in a more performance oriented truck but again a waste of time and money. Just get the proper one from Tork tek and be done with it. You will be surprised by the results. And if the money to put a new one in is an issue (50$ for adjustable stock LP or 27$ for non adjustable electric LP) you probably shouldn't own a diesel. Hope that helps and sets you in the right direction.

Larryb - Overflow Valve for Dodge Cummins Diesel with Bosch P7100, 94-98.5 ..

You will know if its bad .. when - you pinch the return line @ back of engine and its smooth running ..

BEFORE you do that ... Your RPM in N needs to be about 900 rpm .. other wise you will lug it in gear and it will die ...
