hey guys im more of a powerstroke guy i have a done up 6.0. but i have always loved the 12 vs so i got a pretty good duel on one the other day. now heres the duel its a 1996 12 v cummins with 400000 km on it. it did not run when i got it but the guy said it did run a day or 2 before i got there. it turns over well and sputters like its going to start running but just wont start. he gave me low km injectors with the duel that i have now put in but still no start so im thinking its the lift pump or the injection pump.... is there any way i can test to find out if its any of theses ??? i have never worked on a cummins and do not know alot about them but i did just do the injectors so i can turn wrenches well ??? any input would be a great help thanks

 

near the back of the injection pump is a fuel shut off sileniod ... it will cause it not to start... its basically an electromagnet ... triggered by the ignition ... mine is a spaz from time to time ..... look close ... just at back of IP .. just above the throttle cable and such

 

if its not the shutdown solenoid, put a fresh fuel filter in if it has not been changed in a while it could be part of your problem

 

hey i will try the sileniod tomorrow do you just hold up the link well you start it ? and i bled the fuel system today up to the fitler and was like running well turning over but would not stay running and pushed out alot of white smoke ...? i am getting a new filter and lift pump tomorrow do you guys think it could be the injection pump ?
