NV4500 gear oil

IF you run GL4 or GL5 you will ruin the Syncro's and you take a real good chance of having to replace them all ...
the syncromesh fluid is light and has specially formulated friction modifyers in it to help aid in "traction" with reduced wear on the syncro(s).
the GL4-5 is a much heavier fluid and will take some time to evacuate the space between the syncro's and will hence make shifting much more difficult and will reduce fluid and transmission life as due to most people trying to force it into gear and damaging the sift forks and such ......... SO IN THE LONG END USE THE RIGHT FLUID AND STOP TRYING TO BE CHEEP .... unless u like to replace stuff that you destroy for no aparent reasoen other than the fact that you have more money that common sence .... wich most of us have little money and we "try "to use what common sence the good Lord gave us to begin with ....... end of rant.

I'd ask around at various chevy and dodge dealerships for their price. I would up getting the correct fluid from a chevy dealership for $18/qt. Some of the dealerships went up to $32/qt. You'll definitely want to use the correct fluid unless you want a new transmission shortly thereafter.

Syntorq LT is long out of production. I found the GM labelled stuff on Amazon a few months ago. Notice the "LT" designator on the Royal Purple stuff listed in MysterNC's link.
It's alot more complicated than you might believe.

Royal Purple actually recommends MaxGear 75w/90 for that trans, which only illustrates how little is actually know about it - even from the so-called experts:

I'm guessing they no longer produce the "LT" Synchromax either.

Just had to replace some oil for my nv4500 and the shop got me schaffers oil 239s it crosses to a 30 weight oil and so I called him and he said that it was a power train oil and that if u convert that..?? That in a gear oil it's around a 75/85 weight.. So that's what I'm running, doesn't seem to shift that great but he said that he works on these transmissions for a living and that's what he always uses. Anybody have any toughts on this?
