Default 07 Duramax turbo replacement

I am hearing horror stories about getting to and replacing the turbo on this 07 Duramax truck. The Chevy house says that it is faster to pull the cab of the truck???????????????????????????

Someone out there tell me the straight scoop....................please!

You can pull the turbo without pulling the cab, but I dont know which way would be faster to be honest

Default 07 turbo pull

Is it really that hard, 20+ hours for replacement?

Thats the downside of the V8 configuration, really makes me second think about getting a Dmax or Powerstroke next.

20 hours to replace is GM book time, a good mechanic could have it in and out in probably 12-14 hours

the headgaskets GM book time is 32hours, I had mine done in 20

Aside from that these turbo's do not fail that often, they are pretty darn reliable

Ive looked at a DMAX once at our dealership. To me everything can be done in cab, you dont have a cowl that burries everything and looks like with a swivel socket you can get the head bolts out using an impact gun without having to remove cab or dent in the firewall.

I find it that EVERYTHING GM is 1000000x easier than ford. If i hit 50+ wrenching 6.0s and 6.4s i guess i could hit 70+ for GM.... I do 6.4 turbos and hpfps in cab. Your SUPPOSED to do them with the cab off but its more hassle to lift the cab on a 6.4 than a 6.0, those retarded bolts with cage nuts that spin lose, take the torch to the head of the bolt and the nuts still spin, i weld them in place before i rip them out.
