2001 cummins problems
I have a 01 cummins with 125,000 miles on it. My lift pump has gone out for the third time. The first time was at 70,000 miles. I had to change the vp44 that occasion to. Then at 97,000, the lift pump went again. Only I didn't have to change the vp44 this time. Each time I bought the lift pump through Carquest Auto Parts. They sell Carter pumps.
This time, I changed the pump again. Now i get a high pitch sound when the engin kicks over. I don't know what that is from or what is making the noise. I sure could use someones help with these issues. Thank you.

Get a fuel pressure gauge or rent a fuel pressure gauge tool. The engine vibrations kill the oem carter pumps. Get a frame mounted pump or a in tank pump. The dealerships install the pumps in the tanks now. Im not sure with the noise but maybe something todo with low fuel pressure or something else on the truck. Goodluck
