what size tires did you run?

I looked at a stock 87 sammy today. it was in ok shape. but has very high miles needed some clutch work and exhaust.

You can run 31" on trackers with no lift but it doesn't leave alot of bounce room. A 2inch bodu lift fixes that up though and is a simple install.

Sammi's have less clearance on them but I don't remember how much less.

I'l say it again, you can't beat the Troopers for what you want and they are easy to find, cheap to maintain and will go anywhere. You can even get the back seat and 4 door model for family life.

The problem I had with jeeps is that they were to wide to go into the woods, they were great for runnin around 4 wheelin with buddies but my little playtoys thread the needle through the trees.

But can you find lift kits for them?

The same body lifts for the trackers/Sammi's will work for the troopers. Never looked for suspension lifts. I always wanted em as small as possible, short and narrow. So no big wide tires and no higher then needed. I'd drive these things right to the deer, no pulling needed, they fit through any thick woods and knock over what you can't go around.

If you want versatility definately go with the tracker, if you want cheap go with the Trooper. The Sammi's are cool lookin but past that I'm not a fan. You can buy anything you want for the trackers to make them into rock crawlers if that's what you want to do. You can rebuild the entire truck with off road parts that are easy to get and not that expensive. I built a complete off road version for under $3500 including the truck itself and front and rear store bought bumpers. I've had 4 trackers, one Sammi and one Trooper, SO FAR and the Trackers are deffinately the way to go in my opinion.

Forgot to mention, For off road Idealy you are looking for a 2 door, 5 speed manual, 4WD, 4cyl, 16V fuel injected motor.

Forgot to mention the best part about these little trucks. I can pull in to the gas station and fill it up with a whoppin 8 gals of the cheap stuff and that get's me 200 miles comfortably. I have pushed 250 miles out of the one I have now but that's sittin on empty.

They are also easy as hell to work on. The motors are wide open under the hood and nothin complicated about em at all.

I think I found one.
87 Sammi
stock 5 speed
runs good.
rust in the usual spots but theres metal under neath.

800 OBO.
I'm going to offer him $500
then I can get some 31s or 32s give it a redneck paint job and may still be under $1000.
From what I have seen $800 is a steel with the condition. of the body. I've seen non running rust buckets go for just under 2K.
