I have an 02 built in 01. it's an auto with the egr turned off via vagcom. the tranny cant even handle stock power. it just downshifts too much. as far as gas mileage I get 35-45mpg.

 

My mom has an 06 5 speed stock an it gets 46-52mpg and we have never had troubles with it.

 

i sold my 2000 jetta to my son. we had to put a used 5 speed in it because the old one let go and put a hole in the case. the car will get above 50mpg all the time.

 

My car is modded pretty good but still has the quarter-sized stock turbo on it, and I put down 153/270 on it on only 16psi and a set-screw way out of whack. I usually run 22psi on my stock turbo, but I was having set-screw issues which caused the car not to boost until 2200rpms instead of 1700rpms where it should have been and I dialed it back to 16psi to be safe. With the stock turbo running 22psi, I'm closer to 170/300 to the wheels. When I cam the car, I will be right around 200/320 to the wheels on a car that was originally 92/155, on the stock turbo. I '' at people who have larger turbos than me but are putting down similar numbers or numbers barely over mine, but they didn't care to do all the little things that I've done in my car. I never get below 50mpg in the city, and on the open highway going 55mph I can touch 63-64mpg.

Oh ya, and my 2800lb car smokes mustangs (yes, including v8's), sti's, and even crown vic cop cars (please dont ask how I know that last one..).

The manual trans are EXTREMELY tough. THey last forever. But once you start modding, start looking for a better clutch. The auto's are terrible unless you get a DSG which I believe came out in either '05 or '11.

I've got a video on my phone of me doing a burnout from one end of a parking lot to the other (maybe 100meters or so). My cousin thought his camaro was bad.
