Question new to the tdi

well im thinking of getting the wife a car for around town. That being said she doesnt want some ***** granny car. she currently drive a duramax that throwing about 425ish HP at 725ish TQ. So my magic question is,.... where do i get aftermarket performance parts. things like exhaust manifolds, full exhaust systems, larger intercoolers/tubes, intake manifolds, intakes, tuners, fuel pumps, injectors, more or less anything and everything i can get my hands on. also, how much HP/TQ can i expect to get to reasonibly? I really like the 06 model jetta. i think its 2.0 but im not sure. like i said im new to the tdi scene. ask me a diesel truck question, im better with them,

The major difficulty is built-in electronic in these cars. You can expect a hp increase but not that high as possible like in the duramax without getting a cel light.

Typical performance mods are:

bigger or dual intercooler - Forge Motorsport
bigger injectors - Bosio Fratelli
Better intercooler hoses - Samco
EGR delete- very difficult, rare electronic tuners
chip tuning- different tuners
better exhaust- bosal, german brand- specialist for stainless steel exhausts
MFT is a typical german tuner, google it.

very helpful. when u say the egr is dificult, do u mean difficult like if i block it mechanicaly it will screw with the electronics, or just throw a check engine code? obviously im not an expert and like u said above, this is going to be nothing like the DMAX, but i know that on the DMAX, it just a matter of blocking the egr, and then if u throw a code, you have to put a dummy stick in to fool the ecm. is it similar on the tdi?

no the TDi egr is completely controlled via software. blocking it gives you almost an instant CEL light. Because this engine measures airflow like a gasser. The values can be preset via software in specified range, thats all you can do.
EGR is a huge problem to this engine. Soot is clooging up the intake manifold. So you have to disassemble it- to prevent choking of the engine after about 60.000mls.
Checking this is easy- you will find a huge amount of oil and soot in your intake.
Deleting the EGR gives you sligthly lower fuel consumption and a itty bitty better acceleration during low speeds. The EGR is closed in the higher speeds anyway.

I don't like to say it- but you have to look at a VW site to find a specific solution for your car. The software I know to readout your engine and to do settings is called VAG-com. around 300€. A nice must have for the serious driver.

If you want a TDI that you can mod to the hilt and have a blast with, get a 99.5-03 alh tdi. They are still VERY electronically controlled, but you can do ANYTHING with them between VCDS and proper tuning.

The '06 tdi's look amazing to me... in fact, that will probably be my next build up as I've been telling my gf. But thats if I can ever part from my alh... I've got a fortune into it and love it.
