I haven't read this thread, but you CAN get a 4motion (awd) Passat TDI. VERRRRY rare though, but start looking.

just buy a tdi then passat, jetta, beetle. w/e u like then find a vw vr4 thats been wrecked. and swap all the awd to your tdi. its what iam planing on doing. but heck its really not needed ask anyone that owns a vw. they go anywhere.

I think this may be a project I do in the future. I was gonna go with getting a 4motion passat wagon and swapping motor/trans. I'm guessing one would need a 4motion tdi gearbox.
