Default Strongly considering 09 or 10 Jetti TDI

Any reasons why I should look at something else? My commuter car is tired of me putting money into it so it wants to be traded off. So for some time I've wanted a TDI since I travel quite a bit and the drive to the airport is 120 miles of interstate each way, which I do about 40 weeks a year. Anyway, really need at least a mid size 4 door, I've been looking at the sport wagons as well, which would carry more luggage. I've been reading real good things and some real bad things about issues with these cars. Anybody with personal experience?

no personal experience, but they seem to be great cars when maintained properly, excellent fuel mileage too, i'd get a Passat TDI though if i were you cause they're rare, and awesome

I'm not sure what I want. I read really good things and I read really bad things. The bad mostly being issues that the dealers just can not figure out how to fix and it's hard to find one that has a shop that really knows these things. One person called it something like having a really hot girlfriend, it's great while it's good, but it could go south on you at any moment. Maybe I'll just get another CTD!!

I've got an '06 jetta TDI, gets 52 mpg when going 72 down the highway. Bought it with 15k on the odometer 2 years ago, rolled 86k today. Mainly all highway miles. I've performed countless oil changes, put in 1 air filter, 1 fuel filter, 1 wheel bearing assembly, 1 set of tires at 56k, and NO brakes yet. Although I do check them regularly. Other than that, not a problem or complaint. I'm 6'4" and although it looks kind of funny when I get out, its fairly comfortable. Plenty of leg and head room.

They're awesome. Great mileage, good power and they seem to be relatively trouble free when properly maintained. I would stay away from the automatic trans though, that's the only thing I've heard issues about.

I have a 06 with 74K only repair was 1 glowplug. Only dislike of the car is if you drive any gravel it doesn't take very much mun in the wheels to make the car shake.

The 2011 jetta that comes out this month is going to be a little bit bigger then the previous model.

I have an '06, not an '09 or '10 as you were thinking of; but I have been extremely happy with the car so far. It's not yet 4 years old but has almost 100k on it now (time for the timing belt R&R), and I have not had any issues with it thus far; just routine maintenance. This car was purchased new in Dec. of '06. I average a little over 45 mpg with the car (about 38 in town, and 48 on the highway). You can find a wealth of info on the diesel powered VW's here:

Thanks for the info! I've a few months left on wife's car payments and then it'll be my turn.
