Default New Turbo For Passat TDI

now that i found KermaTDI.com i have found some parts to upgrade my passat. im thinkin of putting on a VNT-20 Turbo. its used on V-6 TDIs in Europe. i dont know how much boost it makes. thinking about bigger injectors. Kerma says they can hold up to 250 HP. they call them " "RACE INJECTORS". ALSO THINKING ABOUT new exuast manifold and intake manifold. maybe nitrous. just wondering how much boost a 2005 2.0 liter TDI can take until i pop the gasket and how much power and abuse the engine can take. when i should get new rods and pistons. it was rebuilt 2 months ago with all new internals except Cylinder Head. also wondering how much power the transmission can take. its a 5 speed Automatic with maumatic shifting. Thanks for help!

yeah it has stock internals. ball bearing from turbo shot out and hit oil pump. blew engine. got about 2000 miles on the rebuild. works good

Kerma builds good stuff but so does PDR. That said, your car will only hold 22 psi on the gasket and boots until something folds or blows.

You need a bigger IC like a FMIC and a much bigger IC pipe set up before you start doing turbos. Also, the block will not like much more than 200 HP before you bend rods.

Note that this is just the beginning. If you are prepared to go that far then you need a 6 speed stick, a south bend clutch (I think they make one for the 2L) and some other goodies before you start thinking this little car will handle what the trucks will do.

Oh and should be spending that kind of coin make sure to drain and refill with Evans Cool - its a waterless coolant. VW Blocks crack (bad) when they overheat more than 6 times!

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Please don't use nitro on that car. If you want to inject anything use water / methane.

alright my only question is what is a IC and a FMIC. so basically i need a manuael car with a 1.9 liter to make any power. why would i use nitro? do you mean propane or Nitromenthane.
THANKS

Sorry,

Nitrous is bad news... propane, same thing.

IC - Intercooler
FMIC - Front Mount Intercooler. The stock one is way too small and is very restrictive.
You can get decent power out of the PD and out of the 2.0 L PD that you have but a stick is a must because the auto just doesn't cut it. The audi 6 speed quattro is the transmission to use if you are going to build a car.

is there any way to swap in a audi 6 speed quattro in my Passat. because the idea of the build was to use my existing car so the only money i had to spend was on Mods. i found the Article in DP Mag and i saw the mustang intercoller idea and saw he is making like 35 PSI of boost. i know this sounds really extreme but what about a AWD drivetrain from an Audi. any possible way or does that sound really stupid

When we had out business we did a swap where we put a tdi into an old gasser audi but not the other way. The parts are interchangable because they are built by the same guys.

35 psi and (I read that too) and you will have problems without extensive mods. The mustang intercooler is the common swap for the FMIC but there are others available - this is just cheaper is all.

If you could find a AWD quattro 6spd and swap that into your 2L PD you would be on your way to a very powerful car.

I think you need a plan and a budget before you start this undertaking. I would expect that if you are going to a swap like that expect to send $13k at least. Maybe more if you take it to a shop to get it done.
