Im running 33s. I have a yukon spool with 488 and upgraded shafts for the rear but im running low on funds after the winter build up and cant afford to do a locker and gears for the front right now. I think im going to stick with 3rd gear unless i am first to pull with the option to re-hook then ill try high 2nd to begin with. High 2nd is somewhat between 3 and 4 low correct?

 

2nd high is inbetween 3rd and 4th low ... 3rd low is not a good choice of gearing personally Id forget that right now. 2nd high is going to be your best bet unless your on a lose track than you could run 4th low. biggest issue with 2nd high is its not exaxtly the strongest gear in the trans

 

I appreciate the input. I found out the hard way friday night doing boost launches in a grass strip by my house that 3rd is really weak. I twisted my mainshaft off. I am just going to air up my front tires and pull some weight off and run 4 low and hope i dont fall under the charger

 

Well i finally got to hook this weekend. I pulled at 3 different places. I tried 3rd gear friday night and just hit my 4500 rpm rev limiter all the way down the track. It didnt even blow any smoke because there was no load on the motor so we loaded up and headed south to tipton and i tried 4 th gear there. It carried 3000rps down the track but i fell under the charger at the end really early. Still got third place though. Saturday night i tried 4th but it was a bad track and i had to shut it down because of hopping. 4:88 gears and dyno tuning are in my near future before i pull again.

 

What clutch are you running? We're running way less power, 3.73s and running 4th low....
