Default Smoker class suggestions.

I am moments away from buying 1996 Dodge Ram 12 valve 5.9 2500 5 speed 4x4 and want to build it to fit the requirements of this class rules. This is a regular cab long box pickup.

4WD PRO STREET DIESEL “SMOKER” CLASS RULES

1. 444 cubic inch limit. The engine must have been available as a factory option on one ton or smaller trucks.

2. Engine conversions and swaps allowed from one make to another. Example – 5.9L Cummins into 1994 Ford pickup.

a. Radiator must be mounted behind grill in factory location. Engine must be mounted behind radiator in as close to stock location as possible.

3. Body must be stock appearing. No flatbeds. Must retain factory firewall and floor pan.

4. Factory OEM appearing driveline from a one ton or smaller truck.

a. This includes transmission, transfer case, and axles. Drive shafts, yokes, and u-joints may be a different size as necessary.

5. Water injection allowed. Alcohol, methanol and other flammables are prohibited.

a. Commercially available pump lube allowed.

6. Diesel fuel, soy/biodiesel, and racing diesel allowed. Secondary fuel prohibited. This includes but is not limited to propane, natural gas, methanol, ect… All system components must be removed from the vehicle.

7. Kill switch – Must have guillotine type air shutoff on inlet of atmospheric turbocharger. This must be operated from the rear of the vehicle so the sled can shut the vehicle down.

8. Exhaust must exit upward. Exhaust must have two (2) 3/8” bolts mounted in a cross pattern as close to the turbocharger as possible to prevent broken parts from exiting.

9. DOT tires only. Max tire size is 35” x 12.50” any rim.

10. Hitch hook height is a maximum of 26”. Hook point to be no closer to the center of the rear axle than 30% of total wheelbase.

a. Hitch must be stationary in all directions.

11. Single and twin turbochargers allowed.

a. Single turbocharger limited to a 3” inducer on compressor. This may be measured using a 3.05” slug to verify size. Slug must not be able to make contact with compressor wheel or turbine shaft.

b. Twin turbochargers must be in a dual stage configuration. Size on primary (atmospheric turbo) is limited to a 3” inducer on compressor. This may be measured using a 3.05” slug to verify size. Slug must not be able to make contact with compressor wheel or turbine shaft.

c. A 300lb weight penalty is enforced if vehicle is equipped with twin turbochargers.

12. Injection pump is limited to a max size of inline series P-pump or single CP3 pump. P-pump must retain OEM automotive style governor (RQV). No Sigma pumps or 12 cylinder P-pumps.

a. A 300lb weight penalty is enforced if dual CP3’s and Ag style governors (RSV) are used.

13. Front hanging weights must not exceed 60” from centerline of front axle. This is measured from the furthest most point (front) of the weight bracket and/or weights to the center of the front axle.

14. Recommended to have wheels no more than 6” off the ground within 6” of the forward most part of the vehicle. Wheels can be made to raise when not being used during competition. Can be no closer than 36” and minimum of 2” wide and 6” in diameter. Will be required in 2011.

What do I need other that 25k

What are these for?

and yes, he is right, you are gonna need time...you'll need twice as much time to read and research as you will to build it. read up on suspension and hitch discussions and you will pick up on the little tricks that some folks do to help the truck hook better.

The foward most part of the truck would be the weight bracket so I guess you have to have wheels on them?

depending on how its set up (rpms, motor build etc) an S475 or S480 with 3.0 inlet would be a good choice.

I turn 5k with no load when coming off the line, and once on a really loose track i was holding 4600-4700 down the track but i normally turn 3900-4200 on the track.

all stock motor except it has a drop in cam, valve springs and pushrods
