Default More newbie questions

I am going to make my first pull later this month, truck willing, at Landcaster, CA and I have a few questions.

1.) How do you lauch the truck, I have a stick. Do I rev the engine up and just dump the clutch, or do I slip it? I figure I have to get my boost up some how. What RPM range am I shooting for on take off?

2.) When do I rev up the engine? Prior to the guys giving the green flag or once I get it? Does the green flag signal I have to go at that moment like a drag race, or just that everyone is ready?

3.) What gear should I pull in? I belive the track would be loose and sandy, but not sure. I am 4 wheel drive with I belive a 3.53 gears. I am gonna have to look at that, I know its not 4.10

4.) What edicate should I know about the track and pit area? I dont wanna make people mad, just wanna have fun. So what are some pevs newbies do out there to **** everyone off?

Thanks,
Tyler

I pulled my truck for the first time last weekend and you will definately have fun. I had my truck up around 2500rpm and you definately don't want to dump the clutch, it will stall the truck, but that being said, don't ride it for 100ft, it will just ruin the clutch. The flags just indicate the you have an "ok" signal, definately wait for the green flag to start building reving the engine. I put my truck in low range third gear and it worked pretty good. For pit edicate just be curtious to everyone else, and if you are a little bit nervous just show up early and talk to some other guys that have experience. This is just what worked for me, but I am at the other end of the country so conditions are definately going to be different, around here a good track usually has clay any a little bit of moisture to it, the good track don't kick up any dust. Hope you have fun, and don't break, if the truck starts to bounce get of the pedle or you are going to have an expensive repair bill. Good luck.

For Your 1st Time Just take off normal. Slip teh clutch a little but dot fry it, you need to get your RPM's up. Be at full throttle around the 50' mark

2.) When do I rev up the engine? Prior to the guys giving the green flag or once I get it? Does the green flag signal I have to go at that moment like a drag race, or just that everyone is ready?

After, sit there and do nothing till you see the green. All the green flag meas is everyone is ready and itd safe for you to go. Take your time

3.) What gear should I pull in? I belive the track would be loose and sandy, but not sure. I am 4 wheel drive with I belive a 3.53 gears. I am gonna have to look at that, I know its not 4.10

3rd gear low range is a good start

Go hang out with some other puller before hand and ask them for tips, tell em your new. We are a great bunch of people and most are VERY willing to help.

Thanks,
Tyler
