Default Need some advice on weight and scales!!!!

I'm about to be moving in a month, and due to how the military works, I need to get weight tickets for my truck and trailer, loaded and unloaded.

Here's my concern...(and I'm going to leave a few minor details out just because, but the end result data will stay the same)

I'm going to be towing with my 96, that I'm going to estimate at 7500-8000 lbs. (my 97 weighed around 7500, and I'm thinking about buying a transfer tank too put into the 96)

the trailer weight alone, is about 10k lbs, maybe a bit more now, due to how it's been modified. It's my buddy's, he's just loaning it to me to move with.

The total weight on the trailer I'm estimating is 9500 lbs.

This all being said, I'm estimating then, my total Gross weight being around 27k, if not slightly more. Because I have a Class C, my weight restriction on the license is 26,001 lbs.

Here's my concern. Normally, I wouldn't care, I'd just go ahead and do it, but I need to have certified weight tickets, both unloaded with the trailer, and with the load on the trailer. If I"m over my weight on my license, is that going to throw a flag at the scales, or do they care, since it's a non commercial situation? It's all personal property, so I'm not hauling commercially.

im thinking over weight is over weight and your gona have to play by the rules it sounds like. remember if you get a transfer tank diesel weighs 7.3lbs per gallon my bro has a 110 gallon tank with a tool box and its about 150 lbs empty that means full it 953 frikin pounds. I've never stoped at a weigh station and ive been way over weight in my bros truck right around 40k but my dad drives truck and he says if your 1 pound over your over weight be carful with your gvwr also

Default weight

I guess I don't understand why you don't take your truck fueled with you in it and find the nearest cat or certified scale and weigh it. Then do the same with the trailer. What is it that people are reluctant to do something that simple? In Oregon state scales are free and easy to use but even if I had to find a truck stop and pay $10 that's no biggy either. Besides a possible, but unlikely ticket, you should know your rig's weight and balance for yours and other drivers safety. I weigh anytime I'm loaded different than what I've had before if I'm up in the 15k+ range. Guessing is hardly ever close to the true weight and you're guessing about everything. JMHO.

The only reason I need to hit the weigh scales up and get certified weight tickets is that the military pays by the lb, for moving...ie, if I have more weight, I get paid more...less weight, and I get paid less. The only way I get paid for weight though, is by having certified weight tickets of the truck and trailer empty, and then full, so they know how much actual household goods weight I've got.

I have no problem taking my vehicles on the scales, and weighing them in just because, to know what the weight is, I just haven't in a while, and like I said before, I have to have a certified copy to provide as proof of weight, to my admin section when I get to where I'm going.

If you go to a pay scale or a scrap yard you won't have any problems

If you have the time i would go and get your class A license and then you have and concerns about it my class A is good for 105500lbs. I have never stopped at a scale when i am in my personnel truck or have i ever been stopped by DOT so if you just got get your weight tickets you should be good I don't thank that the cdl laws apply to people in their personnel vehicles only when they are in a commercial vehicle

I see, I am at Camp Pendleton and I did the same thing. Camp P has a scale by the flightline for the fuel trucks and they let you use it for free and get certified weight tickets. Like some of the other guys said you might have better luck finding a scrap yard that will do it for free or cheap. Good luck.
