Mobile home wheels and tire questions??
I just got a nice little trailer(4x8) it's all 2" steel, it's a heavy little b@tch. It has a cut down mobile home axle and wheels(7-14.5), I don't know much about these, I hear there not safe on the roads, is this trailer gona be road worthy for me? It pulls real nice, straight. Im looking for a couple of wheels and tires for spares, are they all the same size? How about the bolt pattern? I hope this doesn't leave me stranded Any info is always appreciated

After being in the trailer business for some years, I can tell you first hand, they suck. Just look at the back side of any mobile home hauling truck and you will see a stack of spare's. They carry that many for a reason.
I know there's millions of trailers out there that run them, but.
In most states they are also illegal to use on any licensed trailer. Nobody will care about you running them until something goes wrong, then hold on to your backside.
There is a reason that they are cheap to buy.

There are 14.5 tires that are "Mobile Home use Only" and there are Trailer use DOT approved 14.5 inch tires. It all boils down to how much you plan on using the trailer. If you're gonna use it once in a while then you would probably be happy with the 14.5's but if it's gonna be used on a regular basis don't go with any bias ply tire. Bias tires wear out quick, they're noisy, and you will feel every little bump in the road. As far as safety as long as you maintain your air pressure and don't run used up junk tires you'll not have issues.

I agree with the posted comments. If the trailer is only 4x8, I can't imagine that this is used to haul a lot of weight. For a trailer just to haul stuff on the rare occasion, you will be fine with the mobile home set up, but do get a spare and carry it with you.
I would not used a mobile home set up for a commercial use trailer, though.

I dont like em, but there are THOUSANDS of trailers out there with these on em...
The reason why big mobile homes have alot of flats is,,,,,they are heavy as helll and the tires are usually dry rotted by the time they are used again for moving the mobile home...
Just like a tri-axle trailer, mobile homes usually have at least 4 or 5 axles and the tires really get abusede when they get all twisted around on the rim while turning a corner...
Around here, there seems to be alot of these tires floating around, so just try to keep an eye out for some decent spares, and keep pressures checked in em....
