get rid of the surge brakes and put an electric controler in. you have much more control and have a extra set of brakes in emergency. going up hills is easy with new diesels, but stoping is the hard part. also somtimes it is nice to have a cb so you can listen and talk to the truckers. if ther are bad road conditions they will give advice. i have a cb with cigaret plug and magnet for antena, no holes in my truck.

 

If I was gonna be towing over 10 K on a regular basis, I'd have to have a dually.

 

Some of the best advice i can give.... Never ever.... depend on your trailer brakes.... i pulled a cattle trailer for 3 years.... just the other day the trailer brakes quit working (blown fuse) and i slid out onto an interstate and t-boned a car... i usually weigh right around 40,000 loaded... 3/4 ton no bags... just pay attention... u can get portable cb's that kinda look like walkie talkie's... they do help..be prepared... even with a new trailer... be sure to have a jack, spare tire, lug wrench, stuff like that... when u get into heavy hauling it all goes back to the ole tortoise and the hare story... and for winning you and everyone around u gets home safe!!!

 

Surge brakes, what do you mean? I have a 2005 Ford SD F250 6.0 4x4 with a tow package and camper package. I don't really want to spend money on another truck an buy a new ToyHauler. The Trailer dealer near me says that he has had people towing these trailer before with a 3/4 ton but I really would like turning mine into a ton.

Yes its actually the 1st i have heard of ''surge brakes'' right here.. but in my opinion... junk... i'm the type of driver thats like hey i know whats going on around me better than any sensor.... therefore i wanna be in control of everything...but... even at that mechanical parts fail... be prepared... always..

 

FYI electric brakes and boat trailers don't mix, unless you can afford new brakes everytime you put it in the water. I just finished breaking the remnants of the trailer brakes off my boat trailer tonight.

 

Don't know anything bought the boat trailers... but seems like a electric over hydro system would work fine?????
