Knock the pins out, remove the lock nut, slide the shaft out from the drive gear, pull the drive gear out, remove the snap ring and pull the driven gear off--sometimes you have to tap stuff with a hammer; I recommend something brass and light taps.

The rest is pretty much cake. Harder to explain that to do; tow it up here we'll have it apart in 10 minutes or less...

x2, if you hang on the handle good and long, that pin should break, well maybe not on a trailer that heavy. it always happens to our trailers at work. the guys are good at busting them and not fixin um. a strong skinny nail set should smack that thing right outta there. but you gotta get that grease out of there before you can do anything cause that nail set will just slip right off there. word of advice, make sure you have another pin handy to drop back in, don't ask my why

I came to the conclusion that you have to pound out the pin that splines the horizontal gear to the horizontal shaft, and then it slides apart. I don't understand where the lock nut is...

But what made it challenging was that the thing seized so that the pin was horizontal as well, so I couldn't get a good enough angle on the pin with a punch to drive it out.

I contemplated drilling a hole in the side of the jack so I could punch out the pin, but then I decided to think creatively, jacked up the trailer by the bottom of the landing gear, jiggled the handle and it came loose without very much trouble.

Some have a threaded retainer pin on the outside with a locknut on it. Yours apparently doesn't. Thus, you can disregard that step.

I suppose I could have written my rather crude directions a little more clearly. Oops. But you're thinking outside the box so that is a good thing.
