I've got a gooseneck trailer that I do a lot of stop and go driving with.
25,000 lbs, truck and trailer. Tandem axles.

What should I expect for fuel mileage? Right now, I'm getting around 5-6 MPG. It was getting down to around 4 at one time. Brought it into Ford and complained and I was surprised to find out that there are known issues with the truck and the fuel mileage. The "cleaning exhaust" message was coming-up at one time every 50 miles or so, surging of the truck or lack of power was very clear, and of course the fuel mileage was just plain absurd.

What am I expecting here? Around 10mpg in town with stop and go driving.

I didn't buy the vehicle for awesome fuel mileage but think this is a serious issue, especially if you run a business and the difference between 5-10mpg is the difference of $300.00 per month in overhead.

 

wow check with the ford guys on this one in regards to the fuel milage that seems extremely poor to me even for pullin a bigger trailer you should be able to help that out in some way or other

 

If your getting 5-6 mpg with the 6.4 pulling consider your self lucky. I know several guys averaging 4 pulling less then 30K. The 6.4 is a complicated expensive engine just wait till you see a repair bill when warranty is up


If you want better mileage trade it in for a Cummins I get 10-11 pulling 38K Their is a reason inline 6 diesel engines (they tried V-8's) are the engine of choice in over the road trucking,construction,Agriculture equipment. (Economy,reliability,serviceability)

 

I wish I would've gone with the Cummins now. I just did calculations of when the truck goes into REGEN and the fuel mileage after the "latest" round of re-flashing has been done to the truck. 2.8mpg and the Regen is basically on from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. Truck is going in on Thursday for a little chat with the local dealership and would like to get their opinion on what to do next. I can't stay in business with this truck, i'll go broke.

 

Delete the DPF and get the tuning to go with it from either Matt@Spartan diesel, or from Eric@Innovative diesel, your mileage will go up substantially, and the truck will be nicer to tow with.

 

well expect between 13-8mpg towing. WOW 4mpg thats way crappy milage! and they didnt find anything wrong? ?????!!!???


now if i was you i would get a programer.. i have an sct with the dpf still on and it uped my mpg by 3mpg. once i delete the dpf it should get even better.

i read you run a busniess as does my family (own and operate 3) and my dad has an 09 cclb and he is in the same boat as you. he plans to tune the truck for money saving purposes
