dont get me wrong id love a 18' car hauler or a nice gooseneck but money doesnt allow. Heres what ive got so far.
Well its comming along slowly. When i bought it it was 14'total by 5'4deck.


i got some scrap and tried to make it longer with what i had. all i did was make it stupid heavy on the tounge

I had a good scrap run so i got 2 sticks of 20' x 4" C Channel
The deck is now 5'4 by 16' next run ill get some more c channel and th decks final demmensions will be 8'x16'


Im lloking for some sort of grading to use as the deck. I dont really want any wood.

nice progression. Our old trailer is a 1950's single wide trailer. The bed was 8'X26' and it worked for years as such. Now days we built a homemade travel trailer out of it (wish I had pics) the new size is 8'X18' and it works wonderful as a hunting rig 
Home made trailers are fine, just keep a watch on tonque weight, wheel track (straightness) and structural integrity.
Afterall, store bought trailers are still welded together from steel by people, there is no magic involved so just do it

I cant decide if with the final trailer if i want a deck over or widen the axles.
A couple of questions
1: the wires on the brakes - one goes to the blue on my truck and the other to ground?
2. The rims are 6 lug - are they a trailer 6 lug or like a chevy 6 lug?

If you go deck over then ya gotta keep in mind how much the suspension will give when a loads on it. They also tend to be pretty high off the ground so a dovetail is always nice and makes for shorter ramps.
The center of gravity difference between a deck over and lowboy style is huge when your talkin heavy loads. The higher the deck the more tendancy it has to develop sway as your traveling down the road.
As far as the 6 lug rims, trucks and trailers are the same thing. Trailers just use the cheaper steel rims usually. I'm in the process of building a 40' triple 7000 pound axles gooseneck. I'm usin the stock wheels off my truck for the rims on it, center caps and all.
