Default AUTO TRANS FOR TOWING

HERE IS THE DEAL;;HAVE A 86 CUMMINS[INDUSTRAL NOT DODGE]5.9L ENGINE IN MY 84 CHEVY DUELLY TRUCK[2 WHEEL DRIVE]HAS A 4 SPEED MAN TRANS WITH A US GEAR VENDER UNDER/OVER AUX TRANS BEHIND IT..MY MOTOR ON OVERDRIVE STOP WORKING..US GEAR IS OUT OF BUSSINESS SO NO PARTS..MAY BE ABLE TO GET MOTOR REPLACED[ON AUX TRANS THAT SHIFTS FROM LOW TO HIGH]BUT NOT SURE ON COST AND NOT 100% SURE CAN BE FIXED...ALSO TIME FOR NEW CLUTCH ASSY.
HERE IT IS..WOULD I BETTER OFF[COST WISE]TO GO WITH A 700R4 OR ??? AUTO TRANS OVER DOING CLUTCH AND TRYING TO FIX US GEAR VENDER..?IF CAN'T GET MOTOR REPAIRED ON OVER/UNDER TRANS THEN I HAVE TO SPEND $2500 OR MORE FOR ANOTHER BRAND OF AUX TRANS TO KEEP MY MPG I WAS GETTING;;I REALLY HATE THE CLUTCH AND SHIFTING THING BUT GOT TO GET BEST MPG I CAN AND COMBO I HAVE GOT GREAT MPG;;
I CAN REBUILD AUTO TRANS AND I HAVE A 700R4 SITTING OUT BACK..I'D NEED CONVERTER FOR IT.SO ALL I'D NEED WOULD BE A BASE REBUILD KIT AND ANY UPGRADES I'D NEED TO DO TO STAY DEPENDABLE BEHIND THE DIESEL ENG I HAVE AND OF COURSE A NEW VERTER.....WHAT WOULD I NEED???AST TO WHAT VERTER AND WHAT MODS TO TRANS???
BIG QUEST IS CAN I TOW A 48FT CAR TRAILER WITH THE 700R4 TRANS AND CAN I GET THE MOG I'M GETTING NOW WITH THE 4 SPEED AND UNDER/OVER US GEAR VENDER AUX TRANS???

700r4 will hold up, but you have to spend mucho moola to get it to do so. For how long it will hold up is unknown. Not worth it IMO. Have you tried searching online?? maybe ebay?? Maybe Gear Vendors or Eaton may have something that'll work.

thats what i was looking for..answer on cost to use a overdrive trans behind a diesel..thanks;;i thought that it would maybe be spendy to make a 700r4 to hold up but needed to hear from someone that knows more then i do[my first diesel so all new field of learning for me]
i have a 4 speed standard trans with a US GEAR auz over/under trans now in my truck..DEAL is the us gear stop working..traced it down to the dc electric motor that operates the shift from under side to over side on it doesnt work;;checked wiring part and all is good..it is for sure internal part of motor..THE BIG THING IS US GEARS IS OUT OF BUSSINESS..NO PARTS..not sure if can get the motor rebuilt or not..
WHY I WAS THINKING GOING WITH THE 700R4 is because if motor can't be fixed and can't buy parts anymore for the US GEAR and GEAR VENDERS parts won't interchange then basiclly i'd have to buy a new over/under aux trans from gEAR VENDERS then to be able to keep the fuel milage i'm getting with truck[and need it badly]that will cost me $3500 plus i also need new clutch kit[it's bad]..was thinking maight be cheaper then to go with auto trans then spending roughly $4000 on another overdrive aux trans and clutch..

New Venture 4500 is a heavy duty 5-speed manual trans, stout little booger. It came out in the mid 90's and was used in dodge cummins 2500 & 3500 trucks, 2wd and
4wd trucks. Look at Novakconversions.com, quad4x4.com, tellicox4x.com.....a host of others on-line. ebay even has some pretty good deals as well.

You wont have to worry about OD units anymore. A conversion might be less expensive than what youre facing. Check it out.

thanks;;;that won't work for me..i don't have a dodge cummins..i have a industrail cummins out of a chevy bus;;it has gm flywheel//gm bell housing/gm clutch and gm trans..it would cost more to put that trans in[i have to buy a flywheel/clutch assy/bell houseing and a adapter to go from gm to dodge and then still buy a trans] it]then to buy a newer over/under aux trans that would bolt to my gm trans i already have...

You can buy the SAE plate and then you will be able to use it... a friend of mine has the industrial version from a CASE loader in his truck...

It will always be cheaper... only known issue with the NV4500 is the 5th gear nut, and it's a easy fix...
