Default Balancing? How much weight is too much?

I bought a set of slightly used Interco Trxus M/T 285/75-16 tires at a swap meet. I had them mounted & balanced and when I picked them up the guy said I had 1 tire that was about 3/4 of an inch out of round so I will probably have a "bounce at slower speeds). He also said all 4 wheels took at least 7 ounces of weight and 1 of the tires took 16 ounces (yes, 1 POUND) of weight to get it balanced. The guy said that its not uncommon to put up to 10 ounces on these "off road style" tires.
That seems like too much weight to me.

I've ran a lot of different tires on my truck, right now I have toyo mt 38x15.5r20. I'm pretty sure they were all under 5 oz. I had a set of tsl bias 38x16x16.5 though that wanted like 10-12 oz and wouldn't stay balanced. I think 10 or more oz is a lot for a radial that isn't huge. I ended up running bb's to balance the swampers. They rode like *** on the road and had vibration and wanted to cause death wobble. Unless you are going to get a new wheel though all I could say is see how they ride and keep an eye on your tread wear!

My one and only BFG AT experience yielded a 10 oz balance on one tire and 6 on another. I asked Discount to swap it out and they said contact BFG. BFG said to contact Discount.
I sold them on Craigslist and have run Toyo's ever since.
I should have been more assertive but the tire tech at Discount told me BFG's at the time(years ago) were all over the place balance wise.
My Toyos have always taken minimum weight.
One of my 285-75-17 Toyo AT2's only needed 0.50 oz to balance. They manufacturer a tough, precision tire. Ditto for Nitto. Same plant.

**brought back from the dead**

Maybe give these a shot:

DynaBeads Tire Balancing Beads

Balancing beads that you put inside the tire. Offroad knobbies would be the best use of these, imo.

Cheers!
