Default Question re newly aquired '96 Ram 2500 4x4

Hi Folks,
Just purchased this truck, while doing rear brakes, one of the hub nuts came off with a distinct "wobble". Sounds weird, I know. Been wrenching for 40 years, never seen anything like it. Threads are fine (not crossed) but nut mating surface wobbles at about 5 degrees as it's spun on. It's as if the thing was machined wrong. Anybody seen this before? Replacement coming, would like to know adjustment procedure for hub bearings. Searched here, but came up empty. Timing cover pin check next, then I'm on the road with my first diesel, thanks for any suggestions,
Seann
