Default Leaf Spring Question

I'm thinkin outside the box again and I need somebody to tell me why it's not a good idea before I do it. I am in the process of adding an Add-A-Leaf kit to the rear leaf springs of my truck and am thinking about adding a piece of rubber mat in the leaf pack for a additional height to be added as well as some cushion in there. I've got all kinds of 3/4 and 1 inch thick trailer mat layin around.

So tell me the problems this is gonna create.

Seen them put teflon (i think) between the springs on the pack. Hows the spring going to slide (especially under load) if you have rubber between the leaves?

the only problem i can forsee is the mat either deteriorating, breaking apart (from the weight and roughness of the truck) or dry-rotting and when any of these happen the rubber will revove itself from the springs and create a "void" in the spring pack. then you will have 1" of play there that the axle can do whatever it wants and can snap the u-bolts.... that can be bad

Springs slidin, whatyoutalkinboutWillis. Springs slide, do they. I'm just talkin about enough to fit in the spring perches not the full length of the spring.

I know they make Poly pads that do this same thing, they just don't make them for this model of truck and according to the spring shop I bought these at rubber will outlast poly 2 to 1.

Not sayin that both of you aren't absolutely right in what your sayin just explorin the possibilities. If this worked it sure could make a difference in how these trucks ride. I already use these mats for some other things on the truck like the lift Pumps. I mount a piece of this mat between the LP and the frame to help absorb road shock.

In your first post you mentiooned about how are the springs gonna slide with rubber in there. I didn't know they did any slidin.

But I think the whole thing has come to a screamin halt anyway. The problem of axle wrap was mentioned if I was to use a rubber pad in there. That was enough for me. Back to just fabbin up a couple of steel plates to put in there.

not sliding...but on the better 4X4 springs, they do put teflon between some of the leaves. Depends on who the builder is I guess. Might be just a Jeep thing.

When I pulled this stock leaf pack apart there was something in between the leaf's. It was to thin and deteriorated to tell what it was, but I would like to replace it whatever it was while it's apart if anybody has any links on where to get it from.
