At the local Dunn-Benson Dragway (1/8), I'm told that with vehicles faster than 9 seconds, they require it (I think they're scared of the behemoth). Down the road at the Fayetteville Motorsports park (1/4), . . . I don't know. I wear it anyway. Further down the road at Piedmont Dragway (1/4), it's required period (they will provide you with one if need be).

It's just plain smart to wear one IMO.

How about my very own truck.Makes a little over 700Hp , weighs in at around 10,800 (with me in it) , and runs in the mid 13s. This pick was a 13.6 run at the Texas Diesel Nationals in Ennis Tx on April 10th of this year. Its the same run as the pick of it in the September 2010 issue of Diesel World where I was lined up against a Duramax. He had me till the 1/8 then I got him.

 

Its not racing in the pics, but it is a drag racing truck. And the pics aren't great either, cause I snapped them with my phone.
